Alas, no. Felt a long shot to happen.

What would stop Sky airing it on Sky Mix, their FTA channel?
What does that say about a channel if it scares fish? Just talk me through that.

I presume they were offering to subcontract the rights to an FTA broadcaster who would pay for them rather than gifting them. Putting it on Mix wouldn't being them additional revenue.

I wonder if it's a mix of whatever Sky offered was was too much or it was too last minute to rip up schedules for the FTA broadcasters

I'd presume it was too short notice. Channel 4 and Channel 5 both have new programmes at 8pm and 9pm so likely would have been reluctant to change.

Thursday's tennis coverage plan, info from Sky Sports:
Brisbane on Sky Sports Mix from 1:00 then Sky Sports Arena from 6:00, including Nadal vs Kubler not before 8:30.
Sky Sports Main Event joins Auckland at 1:00 including Raducanu vs Svitolina not before 5:30, then Broady vs Rublev from Hong Kong not before 10:30.
Schedule has changed at some point, the original plan was to be on Arena for the full day from 1:00 but now they are switching from Mix to Arena at 6:00, presumably when the Darts temporary branding ends. They do need to move away from Mix, where they have been the past four days, so that the Big Bash League can be shown on Mix while there's a test match on Cricket.

Nice to see that although Brisbane is their main focus that they are still showing the British players playing live from the other events as well.

Are they showing all events live somewhere though. Whilst it suits some fans covering Brits at different tournaments others would rather follow a tournament.

Not really
They only showed some of Auckland on Tuesday, and that was joined late. Nothing today from there.
Tomorrow will be their first match from Hong Kong.
As you know there are multiple matches ongoing at every tournament at any given time. At most we are getting a choice of two.
I think most tennis fans tune in for their favourites but that doesn’t necessarily mean Brits or top players. They also tune in because a particular match-up may be interesting, for example super competitive or potential upset.

Hopefully they intend to sort their act out once the season really kicks in after the Aussie Open. Does seem they're trying to make what had become one of the best examples of how to stream sport fit their legacy linear channels.
