Perhaps there is some loophole somewhere in some contract, be it Chris Evans' contract or one between the Wireless Group and the sponsor, stating that only the shows presented by Chris himself are ad-free. Sounds like a win-win for both Chris and the station: only being ad-free when he's there makes him look good, and the station gets extra ad revenue during the weeks he's on holiday. Unusual but very clever move.
As an aside, Wireless rebranded as News Broadcasting earlier this year, which includes Talk TV and the national radio stations based at London Bridge. However, the Wireless brand is still used in Ireland for the ROI owned stations and U105 in Belfast.
