Indeed. As someone who often watches the NC on my phone using the iPlayer app, I thought the 2019 graphics (with original black bar lower thirds) were absolutely fine. Perfectly legible, the contrast was fine, and all the text was clear. The new graphics, if anything, are too “loud” and I worry about the bright whites and harsh reds causing burn-in on my OLED display. The loss of detail doesn’t improve readability either. It makes no sense at all!

This kind of thing is also why QR codes aren’t great if they don’t also have a short-code URL alternative shown on screen.
