UEFA Euro 2024

The first week's coverage details has started to emerge from the BBC and ITV.

For the BBC, Mark Chapman presents quite a bit over the first week, which is nice to see, with Gabby Logan seemingly arriving late on the first Wednesday. She does present Scotland's second game though, with Gary Lineker hosting the lower profile Germany v. Hungary match earlier in the day. Alex Scott is only on the highlights show thus far, though this was what the press release said would happen.
Alan Shearer is the named co-commentator for both England games in the first week. Steve Bower is named commentator for the network coverage of Scotland v. Switzerland.

The ITV Programme Information reveals that Joleon Lescott and Gaël Clichy are additions to what was originally announced of their punditry line-up. Lescott was a part of the ITV team on FA Cup final day, so not a massive shock that he is an addition. Sam Matterface covers the opening game, featuring Scotland. It will be a bit of novelty to hear Scotland games not covered by a Scottish lead voice this tournament. Pien Meulensteen's prominence in the first week jumps out for me.

Euro 2024 has now been added to EA FC 24 (formerly the FIFA video games). This has likely given us a sneak preview of the offiicial in game graphics, or something that will be not a million miles off it. They are quite clean and blue.

Optus Sport have announced thir presenter line-up for coverage in Australia. Familiar UK faces Betty Glover and Katie Shanahan will be among those featuring, with regular BBC pundit and Australia legend Mark Schwarzer headlining the experts.

See the first match has been given a 6.30-10.45pm slot on ITV1 for an 8pm kick off - so the BBC1 highlights come to air before the ITV1 live coverage goes off air. I guess there is some kind of "opening ceremony" beforehand but they rarely show them and then get criticised for not showing them even though they usually don't, and they're usually crap anyway.

Election or no election the evening news is reduced to the regional news, a PEB and the national news fitting in that 6pm half half hour.

Irish broadcaster RTÉ released their full promo out for their coverage of Euro 2024 on their linear channels earlier this week.

I can't find the video on Youtube at the moment. It looks like has an 80's vibe to it as it has a VHS tape replaying some of the goals from the previous tournaments of The Euros. It has a nice shot of a stadium at the end of it though. Although not all of the clips shown are from the 80's themselves. There are a lot of modern clips in there as well.

There is no official news about who is going to be part of their coverage yet.

But I will take a guess that they could play it safe with their line-up which was the same for their coverage of the UEFA Champions League and Republic of Ireland matches.

Oddly, RTE have been very quiet about their coverage of the Euros - really quiet. Hardly even promoted it never mind issued a press release with full coverage details like they would have in the past.

Is that background with James McClean in front of it coming from the screens in Studio 5? I'm not familiar with seeing it before.

There’s a better view of it here, if it helps.

Despite the picture it seems Daragh Moloney will be on comms rather than studio presenting.

Do they have to fly to Australia or is it done from London, I’ve seen Optus and it’s pretty good.
