He's appeared on a few shows rerun by the BBC including the 1/10/92 edition of Top Of The Pops with other Radio 1 DJ's introducing Status Quo but no editions he's hosted have (re)appeared in the 8pm episodes.

What about Jonathan King?

Banned, then unbanned (I think he sued?) then when convicted again, banned.

The banning of presenters goes as far as references by other presenters. There's a Simon Bates or Gary Davies episode from 1987 where they removed a Savile impression. And presumably this will get 8-8-2003 completely banned

Nicky Campbell does one in a 1988 edition too, also edited by BBC4.

That's what I was thinking of, just mixed the two incidents up.

Perhaps I'm wrong (most likely I am), but James bringing up the Malcolm McLaren presented episode before has got me thinking, what if that is the HD test episode?

tvforum.uk

missingepisodes.proboards.com

The missingepisodes thread mentions that there was a NHP between 1994/1995 that was shot in HD.

The Malcolm McLaren episode of TOTP is the only one of the year that has this letterboxing effect on it

Cropping out the bars gives this frame size (looks about 14:9)

The Popscene folder also has 3 copies of it - the raw studio footage/inserts that James mentioned before, a timecoded ex-archive copy of the full show (no other ex-archive copy has a timecode) and a broadcast VHS copy of the episode.

If they were trialling a different look to the show, why did they do it when they had a guest presenter instead of Mayo, Goodier, etc?

I'm pretty certain it's not, it's just something they were doing for effect. Went with Malcolm's quite strange hosting style.

According to the trivia section of the Top of the Pops page on TV Tropes and here's the link: tvtropes.org

It is assumed if episodes from the 90's or 2000's are re-run, then performances by Lostprophets, R. Kelly or Marilyn Manson will also be removed.

Won't BBC Four have shut down anyway before they are due to reach this point.

Tomorrow's 8pm repeats (12/2/81 & 13/2/86) have now been replaced by Sings Bacharach and David! after Burt Bacharach's passing.
