I was thinking more about the no headlines - I wonder if the countdown will do more, providing the latest headlines in text for separate streams.

I expect there'll be zero acknowledgement of the final 'News 24' hour on Friday on air but what would be lovely (though it won't happen) is if the final hour was double headed by Matthew and Jane. Nothing said, just a little marker of the significance as a treat for those who realise what's happening. Perhaps the cameras going rogue for good measure. 

But in reality I'm sure it'll be a dull non-remarkable final hour.

I've also seen a recorded pilot for the new "Watching Box" feature which will appear on the domestic feed.

Similar to pushbacks, the World feed continues in a box on the left hand side of the screen while a muted bigger box appears on the right hand side of the screen showing live pictures. The pilot I saw was of a lecturn awaiting a speech. When it looks like action is about to happen, the World feed is faded out and pictures are replaced with someone sitting on the balcony camera introducing what's about to happen. Then it wipes and shows the content of the "watching box" full screen and with sound.

It looks as dreadful as I've described.

Is David Lowe providing some new music for this relaunch or is money so tight now that they are going to keep using the existing music?

The way things are going, it's like the BBC is a local cable news outfit. Not a national broadcaster. Reduced to absolutely nothing.

Sure. Can you picture the existing ones? Excellent. Now imagine it exactly the same but Chameleon branded (BBC logo at the top, NEWS at the bottom, both centered) and countdown clock semi transparent in large text across the middle.

Unfortunately I watched it on a device without any ability to listen to sound. But I doubt the music will change... yet.

Maybe the presenter will close the 5pm hour on Friday by saying "you've been watching the BBC news channel......."
But the problem with everyone saying the BBC should do a send off for the channel in the 5pm hour on Friday, is that as far as the BBC is concerned, the News Channel is not formally closing like ITV News did in 2005. It's just 'evolving' into a joint UK & World news channel. It'll even have the same name for UK viewers.

Global Radio have become experts at this over the last 15 years when rebranding and merging their radio stations. You gradually remove the station's identity and merge the music policy, bring in new straplines, then remove the local station name, but keep the original presenters right until the end, before merging the stations into one and bringing in the new presenters and station name (which with Global has been Heart or Capital). 

The same has happened with the NC and WN over the last year, in terms of schedules, programs and presenters, and editorial content (the music policy in this example) during joint hours. The joint hours have gradually increased. All that's left to do now, which will happen from 6 March, is to introduce the daytime World News presenters to UK viewers (from the main UK studio).
