NBC reviving Deal or No Deal but with a Survivor style twist - Deal or No Deal Island.
Quote:Hidden on the island are over 100 cases with millions of dollars split between them, which teams must retrieve so that they can play a game of Deal or No Deal against the Banker. Only one team will survive until the very last episode, where they’ll compete to beat the Banker for the biggest prize in Deal or No Deal history.

Woo, a red box scavenger hunt.
Nice to see the writer's strike is having a wonderful effect on the output of American TV, somebody having come up with the idea of sticking red boxes on an island and calling that a format.

They don’t have boxes on the American version, they use cases.

Sad that commissioners are increasingly resorting to the send people to a place for shows and in most cases getting them to argue and get one over on one another. But it's part of the game so it's alright then.

Being nice doesn't make good television.

Indeed: that's why they added 'the crusher' to The Repair Shop, the 'wrecking ball' twist to DIY SIS and the controversial 'Alex Ferguson hairdryer treatment' episode to Ted Lasso.

Mr Bother's Bar from Bother's Bar made the observation that the title "Deal Or No Deal Island" seemed to have been made as a throwaway remark by Glenn Hugill in an interview with Deadline, as an example of a potential future trend of more spin-off formats.

Funnily enough, Sky One did that once, crushing things on a gameshow because of... reasons. And it didn't go down very well either.
But of course speaking of not nice TV being in favour, everybody remembers the time when the sixth Gold Run prize on Blockbusters was to be hung, drawn and quartered in a foreign country of your choosing, while your other gold run prizes (and your winnings converted into the local currency) were lobbed into a bonfire in front of you.

Being nasty doesn't make it either as proven by the amount of flop shows forcing that dynamic.
