Channel 4 Pres: 2023 - Present

Spencer, I hope you have a large bar of soap handy with which to wash out that mouth of yours!  Big Grin

People shouldn't even joke about Oneness. It should be erased from broadcasting history and only ever mentioned on penalty of a painful prolonged death lasting at least 5 years.

Whilst the design work of the short film is impressive, for me they don't really work as idents particularly as they start and end "in the middle" of the action and this looks quite jarring on screen. I would've preferred the previous surrounding presentation to stay and they create more idents based on the falling blocks look. I still don't get why they've gone for that ugly green as the main colour and saying "watch on Channel 4" when they mean "watch online" just sounded stupid. Certainly not the best ident of the century for me.

If the current idents don't work as idents, I don't know what could!

I get the green even less now we've seen the set of idents which predominantly feature a white/grey logo.

I do think the 2004 set beats them but still think they are very very good, though agree starting at least with a graphics cube revealing the first (not the full 4) would be a bit neater but not absolutely necessary. (EDIT: Scrap that - just watched a few up on TV Home and generally the beginning works fine, especially when they start zoomed in on the cube in one ident.)

Notice the breakflashes before the start of a programme are gone now. They did use one into an ident on Wednesday night but I thought it clashed terribly, but generally they play off the back of a promo. The idea of break flashes flowing into promos flowing into idents has never really took off here, though the BBC do it quite well now with their blips.

I was also thinking about this - I really don’t see much of the point in it anymore. I get that they’re trying to make it stand out especially in the world of streaming services but even as the idents prove - it’s not necessary. The Channel 4 logo is strong enough on its own - it already stands out. I really don’t think it needs its own brand colour. (and especially not that green!)

I think each of the scenes could easily stand alone as their own ident. Granted, the beach scene isn't quite as attention grabbing as the crashing waves, but it'd certainly provide plenty of variety.

Quite a fun new promo went out after the football, the idea being that Channel 4 programmes are different and particularly British, compared to what a certain unnamed American streaming company with very high budgets would do.

Has the original ident film gone out again? I know it exists online but you'd think as they commissioned a poem for it they'd show it more than once.
