BBC Breakfast (June 2023 - Present)

I think the regions with these sets also have that graphic, I know I saw a flash of Midlands Today's with it on too - wonder if it's in case something bad happens and building on the backdrop is no longer standing they don't have to show it?

Didn’t they use an NBH background during the days after the Queen died? Probably same thing - have it ready to do in case a loop of an empty windswept plaza isn’t appropriate.

I suspect that if the MediaCity buildings in the background on Breakfast were no longer standing, they'd be surrounded by 'genuine rubble', not LED screens. That's assuming that they'd still have a studio from which to broadcast. Tongue

At NBH this feels like it might be DR planning. There was an occasion many years ago where Christian Fraser (I think) had to present a BBC News summary at 0900 on a Sunday morning from Salford and I think this highlighted some missing assets e.g. closing music.

They have many DR plans for NBH, with different studios in different fire zones, and also Millbank which IIRC was used for the 6 once.

I suppose it's sensible to also have Salford and others if they can switch to feeding to the whole network on their own.

And that background looks just as awful up in Salford. It's the one thing that really lets Studio B down.

I'd say the recorded fake newsroom background isn't too bad in itself as a backdrop. The thing that really lets it down for me is how crystal clear the LED displays are these days compared to how the original Studio B 'soft' set was in diffusing the images with a bit of blur. But with these screens being a lot more clearer there seems to be an "uncanny valley" like effect that just hits a little too realistic.

EDITED TO ADD:
Plus thinking on. Studio C has these sorts of screens that blur too.

Indeed - just because the big one has happened, it doesn't mean the obit plans have gone away.

Perhaps it’s for when the One moves there?

Volunteering. It's #GoodForYou!

Correct, and the "London is not available" DR plan is for Salford to handle one stream of TV news and one stream of Radio news across all networks. Clearly this is ultimate DR planning where every BBC building in London is unavailable and the situation requires every TV channel and every radio channel to carry the same programming for days or weeks at a time. Obviously in such a scenario the country has many more problems than a BBC studio not having the right closing music available!
