C4 Programme Commissioning Woes

Well that's just run of the mill axings. They only aired one of the two episodes of Let's Make a Love Scene - didn't even stick the second on All4 or find a slot for it when Ellie Taylor's star rise a bit on Strictly. Don't recall You Won't Believe This at all.

Those shows mentioned above I never knew existed on Channel 4, and there lies the problem, those shows were simply ignored and got minute ratings so no wonder they have been axed, as they will most likely not be missed.

You Won't Believe This was also Ellie Taylor, another guess who's lying show.

I'm sad to see You Won't Believe This getting canned, as I rather enjoyed it. Then again, I've not watched any other "guess who's lying" show, so I was probably easily entertained. It was tucked away on a Tuesday (?) night so I'm not really surprised it passed people by.

That's the issue with C4 scheduling now - everything is all over the place rather than you knowing to expect certain kind of shows in certain slots on certain nights.

The Annual Channel 4 Report has just been published

www.channel4.com

£1.14 billion in revenue is very very good going. These figures show a strong Channel 4 - all the speculation over the axing of programmes could maybe simply down to Channel 4 wanting to clear out failing programming and not about cost cutting.

Ofcom has even commended them on their strong performance.

To me this shows a strong Channel 4 and I do hope they remain strong, it is really one of a few linear TV channels that I still bother to watch, especially Channel 4 News.

It is definitely a lot to do with cost cutting, they have been honest with the industry about this. They currently have a full commissioning freeze across the summer (aside from current affairs and digital), that's not normal. The report is about their performance in 2022 before the current and significant advertising downturn (which is at least mentioned at the end). This is affecting the whole industry but it has particularly affected C4 this year.

Isn't Channel 5 going through a commissioning freeze as well?

Hope they don't have to resort to putting out old programmes under a new name and hoping nobody notices.

Exactly, would be difficult to tell if there was a freeze in the first place  Big Grin
