CITV is to close

It didn't make a great deal of sense when they had ITV2 and ITV3 to play with but left them on their usual schedules.

Then again, this was when ITV couldn't care less about CITV. (I say 'when' very loosely, they still couldn't)

They only really begun to use ITV3 as an overspill channel for sport if ITV1/4 were already showing sport programming, I believe this was when the RWC took place in 2007.

Still don't get why they did not do that earlier instead of just closing CITV early to hand-over to ITV4, although part of me believes they were trialling the possibility of an extended ITV4 at the time?

ITV3 were showing sport occasionally from launch I believe, overspill F1 coverage etc.

It looks like we finally have a date for CITV's closure having checked DS' Sky satellite thread:

Friday 1st September 2023 at 9pm.

September was the earliest time ITV could close the channel and its closure was listed as 'early autumn', by that point the GMTV2 licence will have been moved back to ITV2 to make use of that daily quota.

Has anyone also checked the channel recently to see if it's been continuously pointing to the new ITVX Kids service?

I’ve just had a look at the channel to see a trailers for ‘Hotel Transilvania’ and ‘Mr Bean’ that end just announcing the titles and “on CITV”.

However, this trailer has just aired promoting the ITVX stream.

I think it's been like that for a few years now. Around 2021-2022-ish?
