BBC News Pres: Apr 2023 - Present (News Channel/BBC One)

Tanya Beckett did the late morning shift from 9-12 U.K. time. I think James was referring to whoever was doing the World feed between 7-9am U.K. time (when we had Breakfast on the U.K. feed).

Anna Foster was on World while Breakfast was on before 9am.

Is really sad though they're basically publishing tabloid trash because they're so desperate to appeal to the TikTok generation.

I think there is a way to appeal to the TikTok generation without going all in on "tabloid trash". As a 24 year old, I'm an avid TikTok user, but also enjoy reading a variety of both right and left-wing news outlets.

Ros Atkins' explainers would be a great way to appeal to a younger generation.

Short and snappy, with only the key points you need to know on a variety of stories that aren't about Andrew Tate.

For example, CNN's Max Foster also does great explainers on TikTok.

If Anna isn’t returning to foreign reporting, she would be a great addition to the News Channel. Her years’ experience of live broadcasting on 5 Live really shows when she’s covering breaking stories, and she has a real warmth to her too that’s sometimes lacking on the channel at present.

As for The Catch Up, that seemingly is rota’d with just about anyone who wants to have a go - and it speaks to a much wider trend through the broadcast industry at the moment, particularly content aimed at young people. There is seemingly this accepted idea that to appeal to Gen Z, this content should be hosted by people whose style is “rough round the edges” as it’s more authentic. The problem is, it’s also sh*t.

The problem goes back to my generations' tendency to be gullible. Online scandals & conspiracies spread like wildfire before anything can be verified because most tend to believe any headline they read.

Anna did the coverage of India’s moon landing on both domestic and international feeds.

Is this the first time the intl feed taking a live programme from the balcony?

I agree with you. Much as I hate the constant changing of presenters on the news channel I have to say Anna Foster was excellent presenting on the World Feed this morning.

Has Yalda Hakim left then she hasn’t been seen in days, just wondered if the Sky limousine has collected her from Aunty Beeb.

Technically no. A few weeks ago Studio C had a breakdown on air which a VT froze... Both UK and World feed opted to the balcony seconds later as a fallback measure.

It’s also notable that at this time of year when everyone is on holiday Martine would usually have been called up to host the One on numerous occasions

Instead the network team has seemed pretty stretched and Clive and/or Reeta have been on air practically every day 7 days a week across the summer.
