Must be an odd and very disheartening experience to be single handedly decommissioning a TV channel. That said I'd be so tempted to put something more than a sync test on air :-D Are you allowed to say why you were the one chosen to do it?
I was the manager for the Broadcast Engineering team, so I guess they needed to retain me for my technical knowledge. As the person kept on in that role and who knows the setup, decomissioning is now my responsibility.
I'm sure it goes without saying I wish things could have been very different.

Both were in Peterborough.
The building that caught fire in the early 2000's is the same one we broadcast from up to a few weeks ago.

Thanks for clarification. I thought it was a Northampton site that caught fire. It was off air fir quite a while back then.
Please keep me posted on timescales.
Good luck.

Ideal World managed to get a pre-recorded announcement from the MD surrounded by presenters and other team members the day after the fire from outside the gutted building.

In many ways they were lucky to survive that considering they'd been on air for less than a year at the time.

Did not know that had been done.
At least it had a long future. My mum had ideal world on very regularly. She would be most upset to see it close.

I remember that they were only off air for a short while. It first returned as alooped promo showing some clips of previous broadcasts (presumably they somehow escaped the fire) and then were back live from a makeshift location which I remember was much speculated to be a portacabin in the car park.
They did very well getting back on air and in business after such an event.

Yes indeed. Cannot remember how long the caption was shown but it was certainly a few days at least

It's always good practice to have a back up of digital data off site, that would include stuff like those recordings, as well as their presentation graphics.
