And they look nothing like that. Tom is the highest paid local meteorologist in the US and he is given a lot of leeway to do what he want. The sad part is its clear he isnt a graphic artist, so his "slides" were always a mess. Really bad powerpoint presentations almost. These bad examples are unique to Tom Skilling only and cant be blamed on anyone else.
Skilling's forecasts are now updated to the new template - looks much nicer than his previous attempt!

Interesting to hear Skilling did the graphics himself - I'd imagine the highest paid people don't want to get their hands dirty on simpler tasks

If you watched Skilling over the years he always enjoys creating his own presentations. Because he wasnt "locked" into a specific format. He would keep going for a long time, it got to the point the control room used to take over and put up the nightly forcast to wind down his weather segment, because he is very long winded. So I wonder how they will "constrain" him with the new package. Again he is a metrologist and not a graphic designer so he was just doing his thing, not really give any thought to how badly it looked on screen. He has been doing that for decades and it will be interesting if they can make him stop and stick to the format they layed out for all the other metrologists at WGN.

Remember he can do what he wants because he's Tom "Freakin'" Skilling!

Moving on, KPYX/KPIX+'s new primetime
news has an entire virtual set just for the weather. In their own words:
youtu.be
How it actually works on screen:
youtu.be
And how they built it:
youtu.be
Really over-the-top effort to make the newscast stands out - but a bit wasted using it for just the weather IMO.

Back to WGN, Tom Skilling is retiring after 45 years. His final forecast will be delivered on February 28 next year.

Ruth Dodsworth did the ITV National Weather today, possibly the first time on the national weather?

I'm sure Ruth did the national forecast at the weekend a couple of weeks back?

Yup, on the day of the Wales-Australia game in the RWC - and produced from Cardiff Bay (at least the first time round, anyway)
