That idea of replacing one of the sofa segments with a chair is something I've not seen elsewhere. It certainly works for a politics programme when you want it to appear to have a more formal distance between the presenter and the guests.

Leeds has the same setup, as seen at the beginning of this clip...

Edit: a quick look around, and so do Birmingham, Nottingham and Tunbridge Wells. So I think that's everyone!

I think the chair was a later addition. When Nottingham and Birmingham first got the new set, they used the full sofa for Politics. The separate chair made an appearance a few weeks later.

An issue at the start of the News at Ten on BBC One South tonight. We got the "BBC One in the South" ident, but the ident played all the way to the end (even froze for a few seconds)... then we finally flipped to the news, and we'd missed a good chunk of the headlines. Oops!

Perhaps the dinosaurs caused some damage the previous night.

Whatever the issue was that caused the BBC London headlines to be seen, it's been fixed, because South Today just arrived as normal!
Edit - Although, I'm not 100% sure if things were quite running to plan, because Allen presented the whole thing standing at the tower. Is that normal?
