In my experience that's a very accurate and typical experience of the job. Interesting up to a point, but a dead end.

A morning closedown from Channel 4 (when they ended up showing a World Cup qualifier between Australia and Scotland live - as ITV was otherwise tied up with its usual morning output)

Not so much the usual closing routine (despite the presence of announcer John Livesey), more akin to how BBC1 / BBC2 used to return to a 'trade test transmission'.

Interesting they didn't have the channel 4 logo breaking up, as they usually done at night closedown.

Great to see some subsequent continuity after all this time, video of the match itself has been online for a while. The issue with the match was that it had a 9:00am kick off and TV-am wouldn’t move, so Channel 4 was the solution.

When Channel 4 had the party conferences for a little while, there were gaps during the middle of the day, so one could hazard a guess that they’d return to the testcard in a similar manner.

It presumably wasn't just TVam that was in the way, ITV Schools too.

There used to be quite a lot of shifting sport to Ch4 when it was connected to ITV. Friday evening Athletics being a regular example

This ties in very nicely with the discussion a while back about GMTV's Northern Ireland opts - a look behind the scenes at the Reuters operation in Belfast, from where Sky News also based its bureaux at the time.

To save anyone else looking, here's the match:

it includes the half-time and post-match studio analysis, and a couple of ad breaks (but not the continuity at the start or end).

From the Youtube archive of ex-announcer Terry Pearson, clean versions of Central's 1993 pres kit (with VT clocks) - followed by the video introducing the following year's package, which you've probably seen on another Central Pres compilation doing the rounds.

God, this video makes me appreciate how beautiful the Central 1994 look was, feels very Channel 4 2015 in comparison, for the more younger posters here. Wink

Always a treat to see these VTs.
