Are people not allowed to wear black if they want to anymore? Many people don't like wearing bright colours...

It’s also, perhaps a bit more controversially, sometimes used for channels which aren’t ad-supported but are more “pop-up” and informal than a typical channel and only delivered via an online stream.
So, although not meeting the strict definition of a FAST channel, things like the BBC’s additional iPlayer streams are arguably also FAST or FAST-style - even though they are not ad-supported.

Interesting point, those popup streams do need a name, other than popup perhaps.
I've never, though, heard FAST used professionally in that context, except by a BBC person who used "The Facebook " and "world wide web" in her bit, and had a presentation deck so old sckool that I half expected the MS Word 00s Paperclip to pop up ask if she needed help.
Best not to mix them up, FAST and Fast (quickly deployed popups) are very different concepts, as FAST are full channels not time limited streams

True, a time limited streaming pop-up is perhaps a third thing!
I was thinking of the FAST-style genre channels, like the BBC History stream, that appear on BBC iPlayer. Those are continuous but with no continuity like “proper” channels have. So run like a FAST channel, but with no adverts.

Also most FAST services properly imitate linear paytv services in that they have a proper EPG and you can scroll thru live streaming services. All via the internet. Its a very mature product in the US and Canada:
Tubi 200+ channels and AVOD
Pluto 250+ channels and AVOD
Freevee 300 channels and AVOD
GoogleTv 800 channels and AVOD (it aggregates all FAST cable and network channels)
Samsung TvPlus 300 channels and AVOD
Roku Channel 400 channels and AVOD
LG Channels 300 channels and AVOD (Only LG Tvs)
Vizio WatchFree+ 250 channels and AVOD (only Vizio Tvs)
Xumo Play 300 channels and AVOD
There is also these FAST services
LocalNow
Plex
FreeVee
Sling Freestream
Redbox Live TV
ViX
Peacock

Emma Barnett will join the Today Programme from May, effectively replacing Martha Kearney, and "will also front TV documentaries and cross platform news-making interviews for the BBC."
Her interviews have made headlines in previous elections, so will be interesting if she gets a prominent role somehow.

That's a good appointment. If they could get her the Sunday morning TV gig as well it would be perfect.

Excellent news. The very best at interviewing on the BBC.

I'm calling it now: the Paxman/Day role in the General Election coverage would be an excellent fit. (Although Victoria Derbyshire would be excellent too)
