The last time studio E was used on the news channel was in November. After that it wasn't seen at all until yesterday.

Remember the old Studio E was in occasional use once the merger had happened for weekend BBC 1 Bulletins and weekly overnights when Studio C had maintenance (and before output moved to Washington). It was only once all BBC 1 bulletins moved to B and Washington/Singapore took full technical responsibility for their output that E was free to have its refresh.
As well as the touchscreen and tower tweaks, the studio has been relit, with worn out lighting fixtures being replaced. The floor has been repainted. Meanwhile the biggest change, is under the bonnet stuff, with new coding for the running order automation, a new vision mixer and re-training of staff. That whole project has taken weeks not months.

On a separate note, due to online safety debate, BBC Breakfast failed today to hit the 8:59 timestamp, so the UK feed just faded away in the middle of the discussion into the countdown to... an hour of Nicky Campbell that was dedicated to the same topic.

Plus the countdown was initially silent. The music was then faded up towards the end, although it wasn't in time with the countdown and didn't have its usual ending, so was just faded down again. All in all, a bit of a mess.

There seems to be a problem with the countdown when played by Gallery A/Opt Out, it's playing out without audio, so they're fading up the audio of the filler version.

It’s the programming of mosart - along with the interface to the newsroom computer system - which has been completely reworked.

If memory serves, the final weekend bulletins in Studio E were 9/10th December. There’s always a freeze on any technical work over Christmas and New Year. There was then a period of development project work before the technical and physical changes to the studio and gallery could start.

Was that just for the One o'clock News abd Weekend News before they all moved to Studio B?

The One had already moved into B full time a few months before but still occasionally used E when B was unavailable. The weekend network bulletins (apart from the 10 on a Sunday) all came from E until December. It was also where the News Channel would still decamp to whenever C was unavailable.

That looks really quite good actually. Infinitely better than the ones positioned randomly in the newsroom.
