Rolling Stone Magazine has put out a few grim paragraphs in this report that The Fifa World Cup could have the potential to break down Twitter's infrastructure worldwide during the opening ceremony and match on Sunday.
If there is not enough staff on the ground once they return to working on Twitter when the opening ceremony is on air from Sunday. Twitter will be in huge trouble with it becoming potentially dead or it could recover with minimal disruption after the weekend festivities in Qatar.

What this could mean for us on this site is that if we are trying to look out for TV/radio ratings for each game of the Fifa World Cup from any broadcaster particularly from the BBC & ITV; there is a huge possibility that Twitter may not be able to give you that information during any of stage of the tournament.
You may have to get that information elsewhere from other social media platforms instead.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn that you guys will have to get that information from Facebook or Instagram instead especially if you're looking for the ratings of the UK nations games in this tournament.

Twitter's going to be dead in the very near future whatever happens at the world cup, Musk has guaranteed that already.

I can’t imagine Qatar v Ecuador generating lots of tweets anyway. It’s hardly going to be a highly watched match.

Sounds like I'm in the minority but I'm looking forward to hopefully enjoying the World Cup as a football tournament. I disagree with Qatar hosting it but I've had no power over the last 12 years to influence anything about the decision unlike presenters and pundits (many of the who were active players in the last 12 years) who could have spoken out over that time but didn't or didn't say enough.
I'm not going to feel guilty about watching it at home by presenters and pundits in Qatar, all expenses paid, staying in hotels probably built by migrant workers themselves.
I do agree with Gary Lineker on many things but I've not seen it mentioned in any of the interviews he had done about Qatar that for several years around 2012 (after Qatar was announced) he worked for Qatri owner Al Jazeera Sports! He is also effusive praising Manchester City without any mention of their ownership with similar or worse issues than Qatar!

The on-location anchors have started to appear: Lucy Hockings, John Watson and Shaima’a Khalil for BBC World News.

BBC opening titles are absolutely awful. However controversial the World Cup location is, how about something that at least represents the host nation?
