He had been with ITV Sport's major events team since 1988 and their Technical Director since 2008. A very well-respected figure in the industry, and I feel for his colleagues in Qatar who have lost a great friend, but who have to carry on with the show; and a great shame he won't get to enjoy his retirement.

Not according to the epg looks the same.

I think BBC and ITV will have to start having to plan for matches ending 2 hours+ after kick off going by how much injury time pretty much every match has had.

The Beeb are planning on going off air at 6pm for the Six tomorrow, I bet that won’t happen

Regarding the studios, ITV’s looks much more like the sort of grand affairs you get at major tournaments, the BBC look like they are hosting a regular FA Cup match. I think they got carried away by the nobody’s interested/nobody’s watching/nobody cares mantra and didn’t think it worth to design much of a set

If they lucky they will get the full time whistle at 17.57 and just enough time to briefly wrap up. But it could easily be still playing at 18.00 let alone any time for a wrap up.

Just thought I’d make a quick point of saying how much I think ITV have nailed presentation over the BBC this year.

As mentioned before, ITV has their studio design looking far slicker and spacious, compared to the BBC’s broom cupboard.

But mostly, I want to praise ITV’s excellent graphics package - such a sleek, simple and visually appealing design. I know they’ll be back to the clunky teal package after the World Cup, but I really do wish ITV could work an adaption of these graphics for their regular FA Cup and England presentation.

Some World Cup branded colour bars appeared as the feed went down during the Saudi national anthem. For which Matterface apologised for after they returned from the break.

ITV also realising they had time to show full team sheet graphics with formations before the kick off too, in their own style. Rather than a single one with both sides.

FIFA test card appeared on screen twice during the Saudi anthem on ITV
