BBC TV Christmas 2022 Pres

Before the doommongers arrive, I like them - they're cute, they're sweet and so much better for having a proper musical signature. Already I think you can see the news safe ones being the idents without the characters and I think they'll look classy.

I may be being thick, but I have no idea what that thing on the ground is supposed to be. Some kind of half-dead pheasant spitting Maltesers?

[Edit: I guess it must be the mole. Not sure why it’s brown.]

Moles aren’t brown?

Same here: the music track sounds peaceful and soothing, suiting the festives well. In fact, I don't think a specific news-safe ident without the characters is that necessary - the river one looks serious enough before the news, compared to the playful pudding and the nighttime ones.

The animation on the BBC blocks don't resolve correctly on the second and third idents. The second 'B' and 'C' blocks are smaller than the first 'B'. Wonder if they'll fix it before tonight!

In the first two idents the ONE is against a shadowed area in the snow.  It still stands out, and even more so if viewed on a TV screen rather than a laptop, tablet or phone.

They are very nice idents.   I think the river bank one is sufficiently 'news safe' unless there is a tragic event involving water, such as a repeat of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami.

I don't dislike them as idents, but I do wonder whether the theme is strong enough. The film it's all hanging off is has passed me by, it doesn't feel like a big blockbuster centrepiece of the festive schedule in the way that the programmes/films associated with previous character Christmas idents have.

I think they're really nice and quite different from what we've had in recent years.

The issues around the blocks have been resolved. The first outing of the new Christmas idents will be going into Masterchef… not Strictly, which seems more an appropriate option.

Before Masterchef is also directly after Strictly - so it sort of is fitting and they've done this in the past. Tess says something along the lines of, "stay tuned as we put up our Christmas decorations next on BBC One"

Also, the first ident will be ‘Tree’
