My guess (as I've said it the YT comments already) is that is was just after Alistair Stewart had rejoined ITN and they had yet to record a VO for him, but I'd have thought they would have had one from the 90's they could have spliced for use. www.youtube.com
Could be a simple fault for that bulletin.
They managed to record a VO for Fiona Foster who only ever presented one or two bulletins around that time. I'm sure I've seen other clips where there has been no VO/Namecheck.

They did actually record a voiceover for Alastair Stewart, but seemingly only an 'ITV Weekend News' one:

And a Fiona Foster bulletin (complete with VO):

Did she not do an Evening News as one of her few appearances? I know that was around the time Mary Nightingale and a few other ladies were on maternity leave, so female presenters were in somewhat short supply!

I'm a big fan of Fiona Foster. I was surprised when she turned up at ITV News after the manner in which she was axed from LNN, but was not surprised at the fact her tenure was super short lived.

She was a reporter for
Tonight with Trevor McDonald at the time. Wasn't that made at ITN? If so I imagine it might have been a case of her being in the building and them needing someone capable to present the news at fairly short notice. Remind me - why
was she axed from LNN?
I always thought Anna Maria Ashe would have been good on the national bulletins, but sadly it was not to be (probably because she came from a continuity background, rather than journalism).

I'd always thought 'Tonight' was an itv studios production.

It may depend where you were in the country.
I don’t recall early eighties Granada Reports ever looking poor. Interestingly Wales at Six on HTV Wales always looked fine as well (I could get both).
Or maybe I was young and easily impressed!
I'd have to agree, to the extent that my local ITV stations (Southern and TVS) made tremendous efforts with their local news and current affairs output.

IIRC Granada and ITN produced a quota of episodes each.

I don't know much about Southern or TVS output so can't comment on that. It wasn't until the late 1980's IMO that Calendar started putting more "oomph" into their bulletins.

They did one for Alastair Stewart in the original 1992 recordings as well, even though I don't think he ever presented NaT in the brief period of him of it becoming single headed and his departure to LNN.

Until this evening, I can't recall a studio guest to ever appear in this studio at ITN, let alone a 2 way interview. (There is one one as I remember it during a coup or other) Whether it was the News at 545, 540 or the occasionally branded ITN News (I believe it was introduced during a Football World Cup) I'd never watched a bulletin and saw a studio guest. Well, here's the late and truly fabulous Carol Brand with 3 studio guests!

If some other ITN nostalgia forumer on here can find the treasure I seek, I'd be most grateful. I'm sure it was either Sue Carpenter or Nicholas Owen that conducted the 2 way from the chromakeyed weekend studio (blue). Looked better than Studio A at The BBC.
