Amount of "T" only kit is very complex - as well as the "T HD" - which are perfectly good (still) as half the Main Tvs in the UK ( Because they are on Sky/virgin) and then tracking the wave of interest in new TV
- with things like DSO and the 2012 Olympics and then the fashion for having "4k" Tvs
because the CE marketeers had discovered that there are more Pixels per line than lines per frame!

And that there are over 3 Tvs per household as they migrated to the (children) bedrooms
and then that slowing as viewing on Tablets rose ..... and thus VOD
And OFCOM not doing as much data gathering as they used to!
so i had to use Enders and BARB for filling in some gaps - but trend analysis was difficult

But it was a fairly educated Damp finger the the Air
and the calculation was on a factory Price of £15 a box (and say £10 to deliver it)
there would be enough money in the £400M
to pay for a box to be available more or less on demand with NO means test (unlike the DHS)
- at one level its obvious - there are roughly 25M TV licenses - so given £400M then that's £16/ license!
which is at least say about half a set to box delivered per household.
.... and if TV Licensing paid even shop Price for a STB for each of the B&W license holders (about 4200),
that pays back in about 7 months!
...extending that idea - If you put the TV LF up by £10 to 15 a year and give free STB with each license
(and then keep the price at say £175/year ......) the factory cost of 25M STB would be less than £5 each into the uK...
And the BBC would be better (not well) funded.
but then can "the (Chinese) industry" make 25M in one year and then not much for the UK market for the next 3 years!
- in a post covid world with Semiconductor shortages and move away from China!...
and the what is done with the TV LF?????

Let alone how long can the COBA channel keep going on Linear TV let alone Freeview???
and the commercials of having more Mux bit rate than channels to afford to buy it!
I think too much of a fantasy!!!!
