BBC/ITV Yorkshire and Lincolnshire News

It was a bit of a 'media frenzy' over reaction (something Paul has joked about several times recently himself especially when it snowed in the South a few weeks ago!)

His 45 second video on X (or still Twitter if you're Sleeter Levy!) explained it about as well as spending half the bulletin on it!

It's now chucking it down with rain so that is the end of that!

No late Hull bulletin tonight. Hull did opt-out as the NC simulcast was in SD.

A full edition of Calendar (East) from September 1991 with Christa, Nick Powell and John:

Interestingly, there's 2 weather forecasts from Bob (before the programme and at the end of the programme) with the majority of the show being presented from Hull.

That's an interesting endcap I've never seen before at 29:18 – 'Made by YTV – Your TV', and not in the standard Palatino italic font used at the time. Did Yorkshire use this on all its non-networked programmes back then?

Definitely seen that 'Your TV' endcap before on a Calendar Commentary quiz special that was uploaded some time ago - suspect it was for regional programming (possibly in the run up to the franchise auction?)

Seems especially odd that Calendar East simply breaks away for the rest of the programme after the main stories.

And AFAIK, that wasn't the Hull studio - the East opt-outs were mostly presented from Leeds.

I never saw it in the west part of the calendar west region must have been specific to the east and the south opt outs?

The extended opt out also smacks of being in the run up to franchise auction, unless there was a system back then where one day a week they’d opt out for half the programme

Also I bet the bank cashier wasn’t as calm as depicted in that reconstruction in real life when confronted with an armed robber on Crimestoppers

Did they ever present the sub-opts from the actual sub-regions?

This suggests that Calendar East was presented from the studio in the Prospect Centre, Hull for a time

Calendar South appeared to be presented from the Sheffield newsroom at launch (though I suspect it was done as a DTL with the bulletin itself directed from Leeds)

Calendar East dated at least back to around the time YTV took over Belmont from Anglia - think it was mentioned somewhere that they used the same broom cupboard studio at Leeds for Good Morning Calendar.

Think by the time the short opts were finally axed, all three services were being presented in Leeds.
