People forget it rarely started at 10pm on the dot in the 90s too. Yes, they may air ads before it but the vast majority of the time the bulletin is ad free - though if OFCOM push through their own proposals to basically let broadcasters do what they want that'll likely come to an end and it's start at 10pm on the dot even less often than it does now.
Overall though as discussed many times in relation to the BBC the pacey headline sequences are missed - they used to tease stories rather than summarise them, and of course in ITV's case had to be delivered within the timing between the bongs (4 seconds I think), which was then replicated by the BBC with the thunderclaps.
