It basically is the Ulster logo, minus the zig-zag for the cities. i do like the font, it has a pre-Star Wars 70's sci-fi vibe

Sorry to be a party pooper, but that logo is from CITV-DT in Canada, and nothing to do with the UK’s CITV.

Spencer beat me to it but I was going to say that I didn't think that was anything to do with Children's ITV.

It looks very 70s and it wasn't known as CITV on air until the late 90s

Transdiffusion has an article (transdiffusion.org ) on Carlton's unused logo (when they were bidding for the London Wekday region) that mentions an unused ident where a CGI man walks onto camera and throws down a film reel revealing a blue line and then the words "Carlton Television" appear.

The article gave me the impression it was seen in news reports about Carlton, but I've never seen video of it.

Please excuse late replies.

It reminds me of early Channel 5.

Carlton was a film and TV facilities company before winning their TV license. Their blue and white logo and associated animations like that already existed for use on promotional videos etc. The fact it involves a film reel would seem to suggest that it was never intended to be used for their TV channel

It's on ITN in announcing franchise results:
youtu.be

If you listen closely, that seems to be from a production reel for Carlton at the time (as there's a male voice introducing the company). Not too sure what it'd sound like in production endcaps...

In comparison, the Transdiffusion reproduction of it was in wrong colours and a wrong serif, but it had been recognized as the first Carlton logo since then...

It's a spool of video tape rather than film of course.

It's the branding of a facilities house, no matter what Transdiwotsits say they'd never brand a multi-million pound TV channel with something knocked up for a B2B promotional video

Was watching an ITV Digital barker promo from around 2001/2002 on YouTube when I noticed what I believe is an unused ITV2 ident, featuring the 2001 logo on the background of one of the original 1998 idents. It also features a "2Entertain" slogan akin to the ones used in the 2001-2003 idents.

I wonder if it was a test ident for the new concept, or if the initial intention was to recycle the 1998 look with the new logo.

The unused ident appears at 0:28 youtu.be
