Market by Market

Philadelphia 
WPSG-TV - CBS owned CW that's dropping the CW 
WPHL-TV Nexstar owned Indie station, yes it airs My Network TV, but it's like at 2am , they air sitcoms between 8-10pm 
I guess they could replace that with CW programming, though they've done better than the CW programming with their reruns in ratings.  There's not much else to go, even on sub channels in Philly. 

Pittsburgh 
WPCW-TV  - CBS owned CW that's dropping the CW 
Nexstar owns no stations there: they have either to work with Sinclair on WPNT -TV  or a sub channel of WPXI 11 (CMG) I don't think Hearst (WTAE-TV ) has interest in that as a sub channel, and the other station is KDKA, CBS so... 

Detroit 
WKBD-  CBS owned CW that's dropping the CW  
Nexstar owns no station there, the options there are WMYD-TV (maybe) Scripps dropped My Network TV a couple years ago, now maybe the CW still might be more valuable than My Network TV, also Scripps might want to use WMYD-TV for sports since there is a Bally Sports station there and well you know. 
The other option is work with WADL-TV a locally owned station that airs My Network TV and maybe they'd see the CW as an upgrade. There are of course sub channel options working with WDIV, maybe not WJBK (FOX Owned). 

Atlanta 
WUPA-TV - CBS owned CW , and  market where CBS doesn't own a CBS station but has a CW 
Nexstar owns no stations here.   
WATL- Tegna owned indie, but airs My Network TV.  I don't think they'll want the CW, they have 3 hours of 11ALIVE News Primetime, that makes more money and cost less to make than picking up the CW,  
WPCH- Gray owned indie, that used to be TBS, I'm not sure, I think Gray would rather keep the 9pm news and probably invest in sports , maybe bring back Braves to ole Channel 17. 
This market might be harder than Detroit for them to crack, they might have to go a sub channel route  maybe even with WATL or WPCH on one their subs. 

San Francisco 
KBCW-TV -  CBS owned CW that's dropping the CW   
Nexstar owns KRON-TV an indie /mynetwork TV. Now I think it wouldn't be very smart for Nexstar to make the station pick up the CW, they currently have an 8-11pm news block. The news ,again is better in margin for the station, but they probably won't have to pay affiliate fees.  
The other option is FOX owned KICU, FOX was willing to have the CW on their My Network station in Chicago and this one here is an Indie so... and there's no live primetime news block , I can say maybe on this one. 

KOFY-TV currently airs a digital network on the main channel called Grit, in theory, they could preempt two hours and air CW. 
Another reason why I even bring up other stations in the Bay Area, is that they might not want to change KRON's format and/or still might want to get some CW affiliate fees, especially in a top market like this.

Seattle 
KSTW-TV - CBS owned CW , and  market where CBS doesn't own a CBS station but has a CW 
Funny enough Nexstar used to own two stations there, traded them to FOX for the Charlotte market , oops.  
For .1 stations left: JOE-TV is owned by FOX (I know that's not the name anymore, but I still call it that) . They have a long running 9pm newscast, Q13 airs news at 10pm (yes I also know about the current name) they probably won't move that.   KONG-TV airs KING-TV news from 9-11pm , KING will probably not want to mess with that.  This one might be the hardest market for Nexstar to have a pick up.  

Tampa 
WTOG-TV - CBS owned CW , and  market where CBS doesn't own a CBS station but has a CW  
Nexstar owns stations here, WTTA, Great 38 , does air a Channel 8(the other Nexstar station) newscast at 8pm and Spanish news at 9pm and Spanish show at 9:30pm. I guess they could move /end that but...sure. Hearst does own an indie WMOR-TV , would they be willing to have the CW?   There's not much else in the main station market, unless that former Unimas station wants to try something else. 

Sacramento 
KMAX-TV CBS Owned CW station  that's leaving the CW 
Nexstar does own station, BUT... unlike Tampa it's not a sister station to a bigger one, and it's not an indie like KRON or WPHL , it's the FOX station KTXL-TV.  They are also in a contract with FOX so.. and it would be really a dumb move to switch FOX to the CW, I'd think Nexstar knows that.   There they might have to use a sub channel. There is Hearst owned KQCA-TV and again that might be tough sell.  Otherwise, I think the easiest thing here is a CW sub station or using 2 hours on one of the channels like the TBD station (that's the name of the network) 

My full thought here is that I don't think it will be a fully clean switch to another station because other factors are in play especially on the local level. I'd think Nexstar would also listen to what works on the local level. I think it'd hurt KRON if they lost their 8-10pm news programming for a network that really doesn't rate well. I'd be interesting to see what happens in these areas though.  I guess we'll see though. 

The other hard part is the markets where Nexstar doesn't own a station has to worry about how other groups are using their stations and the market forces aren't really in the CW's favor.
