2022 FIFA World Cup

Well clearly at some point this wasn't the case. Not all apps are available or work on all platforms - it was certainly the case of UKTV Play for a long time.

And some apps update pretty quickly and stop working. Eurosport player ceased working on my TV years ago.

The World Cup rated a bit low last night for a semi - 6.3 million is a bit down on the average for 7pm matches this tournament. Be interesting to see what tonight gets and what the final gets on Sunday afternoon.

If France don't dominate and it's a tight game to the end I could see some big audiences. If France get some goals early on then I can't imagine many wanting to see them inevitably then win the game.

The state of the scorebug designs during this WC is honestly amazing, compared to other sporting events with this big of a scale (Olympics, anyone?).

The Beeb (note the extra-time identification):

ITV (note the red card display):

Fox (note the extra-time identification, too):

Fox during penalty shootouts (the only broadcaster I know doing this):

World feed:

BeIN Sports (world feed without the jersey color IDs):

VTV (Vietnam; because their logo bug is on the upper left corner, that's all):

Telemundo (even though their logo bug is on the upper right corner):

TSN with a narrower design and another way of saying how much stoppage time there is:

Presumably this is it. Let me know if there are other designs.

RTE uses the same as Bein Sports, world feed but no jersey colour IDs.

I'm not sure if it was just an NOS thing, but during the last games of the group stage when all that group's teams played at the same time they included a small scoreboard underneath the main one of the other game.

It was also done on Fox in the form of "score alerts".

There was a half-a-minute delay between when the goal is scored and the alert is flashed, obviously to avoid alerting viewers to goals that are cancelled by VAR decisions.

Here in Brazil, both Globo (across TV Globo, sportv and Globoplay) and LiveMode (via streamer Casimiro - on Twitch and YouTube - and FIFA+) use the same scorebug as beIN Sports.

Televisa (Mexico) and RTVE (Spain) use a Spanish-language version of the world feed, with all elements of the world feed being translated into Standard Spanish (e.g. Team Lineup = Alineación, Ball Possession = Posesión de Balón, Halftime = Descanso). The feed also has the burnt-in scoreboard on screen, as published earlier. This doesn’t happen in their UHD feeds, which use their own scoreboards, as well as the standard British English world feed graphics.

An extra fact to mention: Lenodal is saying the world feed graphics were designed by Swiss motion design agency Ramon + Pedro. Will keep you updated on this.
