Telemundo’s World Cup coverage for Hispanic American audiences was announced Tuesday, in which they announced their massive production footprint, which is very huge for an event of such scale. The reason for this is due to the involvement of NBC Olympics (yep) in the production of the match coverage and overall programming, working alongside Telemundo’s own staff.
Telemundo is having three (yes, three) studios located in the Souq Waqif market in downtown Doha, where a wraparound studio in the Souq plaza with two large windows on the world with space for various broadcast positions will be complimented with two studios in the interior of the market: one second-floor enclosed studio and an open-air branded space. Additionally, Telemundo will have two separate positions in other areas of Doha: one next to the Fox studio at the West Bay Corniche, and another at the FIFA Fan Fest at the Al Bidda Park, both of which will be used for overarching entertainment programming. Additionally, Telemundo will get access to a stadium-side studio at the Lusail Stadium, which will be used during USA and Mexico matches played at the venue, as well as a space at the IBC at the Qatar National Convention Centre, to be used mostly for post-match debriefs with VAR referees. Telemundo Center in Miami will be also used for supplementary needs.
In part due to NBC Olympics’ involvement, the sets were designed by HD Studio, the partnership of Bryan Higgason, Paul Benson and Sid Wichienkuer, which has designed every NBC Olympics set since Rio 2016. HD Studio also did the Telemundo studio at the Red Square over in the last World Cup. Telemundo will also retain their excellent broadcast theme “Sueño de Campeones”, by Yoav Goren, which has been re-recorded at the Abbey Road Studios for the occasion.
Here are some renderings of how the sets look like:
