Yes, it's a "hot" DR solution, which means it's always ready to switch to - which has proven useful a few times already.

Doctor Who interruption before Blankety Blank just now: twitter.com

What does that say about a channel if it scares fish? Just talk me through that.

Why? It's months away. The show is even more desperate than The X Factor used to be to keep itself in the limelight

I reversed it, but all i heard was tennant saying: "i hate that". Couldn't make out the rest

I'm more intrigued by the little bit at the start, with a jingle.

Tennant: "Cryptic, I hate that"
Tate: "Why has this face come back"

I'd be tempted to put this in the Closedown thread but it's more of an anti-appreciation post…

It seems like the closing announcements on BBC One have become very sober over recent months. Even from the likes of Duncan who has been on for the last couple of nights. Rarely a “goodnight”, no plugs of forthcoming shows, it’s just a typical “now we join the BBC News overnight”. It was often a mixed bag depending on the announcer on duty but now seems the norm. Maybe an edict from above?

I'd say it would fit on the Closedown thread, because its musing about the past, but I see your point. Maybe there's a sense of 'Very few people actually stay up this late' so they feel there's no point. On a technical level, that's not untrue, but its nice to have. A bit like having a clock before the news, there's that level of 'they actually care'

I would imagine the thinking is that they want people to carry on watching, even if it is just a simulcast of the News Channel. Saying goodnight gives people the impression there's nothing more to see, and is likely to prompt some viewers to switch off or switch over.

In my days on the radio, I was always told not to say goodbye at the end of my show; rather to plug the show coming up next, so as not to provide a switch-off point.

Yes, it's sad from a pres enthusiast point of view, but I can see the logic. And given we've not actually had a true closedown on BBC One since News 24 launched in November 1997, the idea of a closedown link is a bit of an anachronism.
