I'm surprised we didn't get any reference in the interview between Samira Ahmed and Richard Frediani on tonight's edition of Newswatch (focused on BBC Breakfast) about the new set being constructed, especially given the programme's description on iPlayer: "Where next for BBC Breakfast as it reaches its 40th anniversary?" No glimpses of the new set, no mention of it at all. It was all about viewers complaining about too much focus on campaigns / Prince Harry / celebrity interviews.

It looks like this time round they've found the original Breakfast Time sofa!

Just repeat the entire first Breakfast Time instead of a new one

"You won't believe where it was". Probably in storage, on eBay or in a charity shop somewhere. Or Frank Bough's shed
(stranger things have happened, TV-am gave away their old/original sofa when they replaced it in 1985 for example. Presumably long since scrapped)

So BBC Breakfast this morning are using a 1980s style clock, the old BBC Breakfast Time logos and music as its the 40th Anniversary of the programme.
At London Waterloo Station they've got the Green Goddess, Carole is in the studios today with the weather.
They even have mugs and jumpers with the old logo on.

Having the retro clock for the whole show seems a bit overkill, they could have perhaps just used it from 08:30 onwards!

A few screenshots from today's 40th anniversary special.
Featured in headline sequence:
First appearance of on-screen analogue clock re-creation:
Pointing out the 'new' clock:
Throw from weather to sofa, showing first glimpse of studio in full retro livery:
Alternate retro logo screens:
'Classic'-style graphics/transitions:
Analogue clock always on-screen; but regular lower-third graphics are still in use for coverage of news not related to the anniversary.
This looks like a full HD widescreen recreation of the old titles...
...with a sprinkling of graphics magic to make them look 'classic'.
Not a bad effort!

While the 0600 TOTH used the standard BBC Breakfast intro, the 0630 BOTH featured the full version of the recreated Breakfast Time sequence shown above.
The 0630 BOTH went straight into anniversary-related content, with no standard headline sequence (marking the 0630 start-time of the very first edition of Breakfast Time), and with the studio in full Breakfast Time colours...
...and presenters discussing the anniversary in detail...
...before launching into the first of many segments covering the anniversary throughout the morning. Hello, old friend:
Not the only 'old friend'...
to be making an appearance today...!

They should put it on Iplayer.
