I think it was last year. Presumably it's because they want a night race for pretty lights and if they did it Sunday night, it'd be on a Monday morning/during the working day in Europe/Asia which would presumably get fewer viewers (and which broadcasters might not love).

Yes, it was also pretty late on Saturday night so that it would be Sunday morning in Europe.

Yes, qualifying and the main race falls at 6am our time. Works better for C4 than a race in our primetime which results in highlights in the early hours.

As others have said, it takes place at 10pm Saturday night local time so it becomes an (early) Sunday morning race for the big audience in Europe, plus having it at night looks so much better for Las Vegas than a daytime race.
Same happened for the first race there in November and is again this year.

Channel 4 did their first full separate highlights show for the Sprint Qualifying sessions for the Chinese GP today.
Lee McKenzie hosted the show from Aston Martin's F1 factory alongside Billy Monger which will be their base of operations for all of their sessions in China this weekend.
It was a very brief show; it only lasted for up to 30 minutes which included the adverts.
They didn't show the SQ1 session in full on it. They only showed the remaining two SQ sessions from Shanghai.
However the SQ3 session was a brilliant watch though. I really enjoyed the unpredictability of it.

It's incredible how poor Sky deal with repeating overnight races - both linear and on demand. The Sprint took place at 4am this morning. It's not repeated until 11:30am and it's not available on demand.
They've scheduled a repeat of Qualifying at 10:30am... but that took place AFTER the Sprint so you can't watch Qualifying without the Sprint result being spoiled. The next repeat of Qualifying isn't until 12:45pm. That means that Channel 4 at 12:15pm is the only spoiler-free option to watch Sprint and Qualifying.
The Sky F1 EPG is never updated either, so you are guaranteed to see a spoiler if you tune into the linear channel at the scheduled time. If Sky really want to remove local recordings and focus on streaming then they need to do better. BBC, ITV and Channel 4 all publish on demand programming so much quicker.

I don’t understand why Sky is so slow at getting races available on demand. It seems to take 24 hours and more and is a right pain as a NOW subscriber during this part of the season.

New tracking graphic used on the Sprint race this morning. A little unnecessary at times (especially the one point when it came up for almost everyone as the feed stayed on turn one) but should have its uses if used sparingly and correctly.

Totally. That tracking graphic was already used before but only on the cockpit cameras. This is the first time that they are using it on other shots.

Don't think Sky's studio based approach to F1 coverage is going to get much positive feedback from their talent...
