While it could be a lifeline of sorts (and they do have the likes of Tova O'Brien working for them, following the demise of Today FM), it has been previously rumoured - though little more than that - that Stuff are struggling financially.
A third-party solution - maybe similar to Sky - might seem to be the answer, even if it's not the most ideal.
Meanwhile, TVNZ have rubberstamped the axing of their Midday and Tonight news programmes - with unions pushing ahead with legal action as a result.
A decision on Sunday's future is expected later today (our time) while a 'Fair Go' consumer affairs unit is being set up to replace the titular programme.

WBD has rubberstamped Newshub's closure - not much different from what we already knew but the staff consultation ended yesterday. Its last day of operations will be July 5th.

WBD says it will keep Three on air and carry local output "in conjunction with funding partners" (i.e. NZ on Air) - but adds there's no deal "as of now" on news output. Across the business, 294 jobs will go.
Radio New Zealand is reporting that TVNZ has also confirmed the axing of its 'Sunday' current affairs programme.
Sky says it will consider its options over its 5.30pm News First programme, produced by Newshub.

It's election day in South Korea, as the voters will choose who's going to the parliament, and all major TV networks and channels will have an election coverage throughout the night. The coverages will also be streamed on YouTube.
Major terrestrial networks: They will announce the results of their joint exit poll at 6 pm KST / 10 am UK / 9:00 UTC. Also, watch for their
interesting graphics.

I don't think the lower thirds changed at all (barring nametag). The white lower thirds is just due to the recording being from Now's Finance Channel (333) rather than the News Channel (332).

I think I phrased it wrong in the original comment - yes, the change seems to just to bring the headline/name straps in line with the rest of the news channel. They moved into a virtual set in the first few days after the change, but probably for a cleanup in the main studio during the holidays though.
ViuTVsix's news updated the titles, but not the straps (the outro capture is choppy, but you get the idea).

And to add not news related but now looks like Shortland Street is under threat too, which just highlights how vulnerable the NZ television industry is at the moment.

Shortland Street is also facing a uncertain future as well, as TVNZ fund the soap through their advertising revenue. Unlike Neighbours there's also no UK broadcast partner to help with production costs, and not sure about Amazon.

Channel News Asia got a graphics refresh today along with the launch (or rather relaunch) of East Asia Tonight airing at 6pm Singapore time. This comes after the channel celebrated its 25th anniversary last month.
