For some reason in Paris they actually not. The Time trials are on the opening day, Sat 27th, instead with the Men’s road race a week later on Sat 3rd and the women’s on Sun 4th. There is a cycling event every single day in Paris with the time trials, mountain biking, BMX, Road Races and then the track.

I assume the road race isn't on the first Saturday of the games because it starts and ends where the Opening Ceremony will take place and the area likely will need some work to be converted into cycling mode

I think the time trial on opening day is ending there as well.

Final plans for the Opening Ceremony announced by Gérald Darmanin during a Senate hearing yesterday:

- The "Floating Parade" route to be shorter, covering only the Seine surrounded by the downtown Paris area, a 6 km area
- The other plans already announced are still on board, but tweaks have been done to prioritise security and logistical concerns
- Capacity down to 600k, of which 326k will be ticketed (104k will be paid and 222k will be distributed free, by invitation only), adding another 50k from the Fan Zones in downtown Paris and another 150k onlookers inside the buildings overlooking the Seine
- 326 volunteers and 180 boats will be used for the event (of which 94 will be used for the Athlete's Parade)
- The ceremony, directed by Thomas Jolly, is planned to "top" Zhang Yimou's Beijing and Danny Boyle's London opening ceremonies

The official poster has been also released: not the usual depiction of the Games' logo with surrounding Look of the Games visuals, but rather the first diptych-sized poster of the history of the Games, inspired by Art Deco and Surrealism and Paris' iconic landmarks (including references to the sports themselves and even the mascots themselves). It was drawn (fully hand-drawn) by renowned illustrator and Hermès designer Ugo Gattoni, with half being dedicated to the Olympics and half for the Paralympics (and both forming a continuum design).

Been confirmed the Opening Ceremony will begin 7.30pm local time, so 6.30pm BST. An earlier start which should maximise the potential audience for the BBC though will see both evening news bulletins disrupted.

Safe to assume BBC News and Regional News will air 4pm -5pm which gives 1hr 30 build up.

5-6pm would be fine with half an hour build up.

Particularly if they have a preview show earlier in the week.

I don't think they've done a preview show for a few games now.

They had 40 minutes of build-up to the Tokyo OC - and 30 minutes for Beijing 2022 OC so I imagine they'll around the same ballpark for Paris
