A sad confession: I took 21 April 2008 as a sick day off school, just to catch the revamped BBC News Channel.

One thing many people might not remember is that for a few weeks, in between News 24 and World adopting the BBC News corporate look, News 24 would revert back to the old flags look overnight, when the two would share the top half hour of each hour between 1 and 5am. Was a wierd situation but only lasted a short time. I really liked that first News 24 look and while the flags were dropped, you could see elements of it in the BBC News corporate look adopted in 1999 (and which has persisted since in one form or another).

Some great clips here -

Chris Eakin was one of my favourite presents - an original of News 24 who presented from 1997 to 2015.
How very, very sad the BBC is closing the channel whilst trying to make sure no one really notices.

Since we're talking memories, I'm going to take a minute to remember the great Komla Dumor.
In the same way that every Doctor Who fan has "their" doctor, Komla will always be my face of to 5-6am hour on overnights.
I found his presenting style and voice suited that hour perfectly, and I remember the tribute to him lead by Sally Bundock. I'm sure he is missed by many.

Anyone remember Zero 30? The predecessor to Liquid News, it was an arts and entertainment news roundup broadcast on News 24 at 00.30 each night.

It used to go all the way across when it was a story title or Breaking News, but just up to the clock if it was a name/title.
On this video from overnight it seemed to animate unless during The World Today when it just faded on and off.

Here's another one with the red bar right across...

The first clip is interesting I didn’t realise bbc news 24 were animating their graphics, the world one mimicked the national graphics at the time hence the difference, News 24 back then always was the odd one out graphics wise, that used to annoy me lots back then so much so I got a satellite dish pointed it to 13e and never looked back

I remember Komla in a different way - on Network Africa, a radio show broadcast to Africa East and Africa West streams of the World Service. 5 half hour shows every morning aimed at different countries/timezones which I was regularly Studio Manager for. He was so warm, friendly and forgiving to newbies like me who made the odd mistake at 4:16am. And those jingles.......
