BBC News Pres: Apr 2023 - Present (News Channel/BBC One)

Not sure... it's not a "breaking news opt" for sure... because there's no breaking news covered. Lewis just popped up after Sportsday to fill time until 1400. It's just your regular 1345-1400 UK news opt.

I didn't know that the regions were getting new titles?

Well, Lucy is back on the UK feed at 14:00.

It makes you wonder who of the two - Yalda or Matthew - got the shorter shift.

More extracts from the South Asian feed... it's completely unwatchable. 30% of the screen is CENSORED with the "BBC WORLD NEWS" strap. You can't read any text on the lower-thirds and the infographics are completely blocked... What the hell is going on in that feed?

Ladies and gentlemen - we have our very first UK opt! Something that has been controversial for months in this community, speculated as an urban legend...

Yes, because most viewers tune into BBC News based on who's presenting...  Rolleyes Or maybe they tune in because they want to catch the news and in reality most aren't really bothered who is presenting.

I suspect outside of forums such as these the latter is usually the case.

When watching the NC during the day, it was commonplace to get breaking news alerts for UK stories that often wouldn't even be significant enough to warrant a breaking news alert on the app.
This is sought of why I thought a dedicated hourly UK news segment would be a sensible idea. While there are certainly some types of UK story that can be integrated into the main body of a hybrid domestic-international bulletin, there are some, like the ones you list, that just can't, or at least not in a way that doesn't lead to a bit of a worthiness whiplash. As with business and sport, if you have a demarked segment, you cover a good few of these types of stories in a bit of depth without suggesting they are the main news.

Lucy's hardly unfamiliar anyway. She's been on loads of times when there's previously been combined output. And she used to regularly do The World Today that was seen on both channels at 5am. So she's been on UK screens a lot more than one might think.
