BBC News Pres: Apr 2023 - Present (News Channel/BBC One)

I really hope someone at BBC News is noting that those "Chief Presenters" clips and "Across the UK" report opt outs need working on as a matter of priority: the way that the UK feed has crashed out of those clips and back to the presenter like a rabbit in headlights, with no bumper, has been nothing short of embarrassing today. Not to mention that the lower thirds cover the "UK" bit of the "Across the UK" title card. Awful. You genuinely wonder if the remaining staff at BBC News are asleep at the wheel.

Yes, because most viewers tune into BBC News based on who's presenting...  Rolleyes Or maybe they tune in because they want to catch the news and in reality most aren't really bothered who is presenting.

I suspect outside of forums such as these the latter is usually the case.
I think that comment is rather dismissive of the people who became familar faces on the news channel over the years. Even if casual viewers may not know them by name a face you know can be a face you trust - and trust is more important than ever with BBC News.

The problem though as you elude to is people tune in to catch the news - and in reality this new channel is not delivering the news that UK viewers tune in to the BBC for. It's the failure everybody predicted it would be.

Is Elizabeth Ritzini the only weather presenter today?

In case we didn't know that's it's live, because it's definitely live!

Live is best. News isn't generally as good when it's been prerecorded a week in advance.
Well, according to that nice Mr Meldrum:

Quote:Today, most news is stage managed and planned weeks in advance, but in the early days, television had a lot to prove by being more up to date than the newspapers.

If that centralised globe exists for a sting, then it can be adapted as an end board! Understand costs as tight but come on…

This is what I don’t understand about the globe and Chameleon mashup. We’ve been told that it’s very much a stop gap and all-new pres is being worked on. OK I can see why we get the bodged 2008 titles. But then they’ve recreated the 2008 globe for use in the sting so it can be central and have Reith city names.

If the current look is interim why spend the time recreating the globe? And if the answer to that is the globe will be around for a while why not use the recreated globe in the titles?

The whole thing is a mystery.
Isn't this something like the third "interim" set?

I see both your points. Though as I said earlier, Lucy Hockings (whom the original post was referring to) isn't exactly an unfamiliar face. She's been seen on many, many joint NC/World programmes - and I'm pretty sure she was the regular 5am host for a while, so she would have been seen on both channels then as well. We've had that many simulcasts over the past few years that I'd say most of the World faces (certainly all of the fab five) are at least somewhat familiar to UK viewers. And hopefully we will at least still see the likes of Martine Croxall and Annita McVeigh popping up from time to time.

Normally there are three weather shifts:
a) Breakfast, 9am-12pm
b) News at One, Newsnight, 2pm-6pm, NC evenings, Weather for the Week Ahead
c) News at Six, News at Ten, NC overnights

What I've seen today just feels strange.

They were covering the Russia story this morning while UK teachers were voting to reject the government's pay offer, which will mean more strikes. Sky was all over the latter.

And, when I flicked on just now, the first story I saw started 'here in the UK...' It just feels like nothing you'd see anywhere else in the world from a national broadcaster's domestically-available news channel.

And, while I know it's not new, I wish they'd stop the ticker pulling through non-headlines like 'the other Chinese apps taking the US and UK by storm'. It's been happening for years and it just looks like they have no pride in the output - which I'm sure isn't the case.

I’m sorry, I will give them the benefit of the doubt on a lot but how did that title card make it to air?

The studio shot looks amazing. The titles look really rubbish - ‘news’ in a different size and different colour to how it is in the studio is poor, the balance is completely off (the top right globe was balanced by the bottom left square). I just don’t understand how they looked at that and thought it was right.

This, on the other hand, is so much better. This should be the titles (they’re titles, not an ident - surely doesn’t need to be the top/bottom format!)
