BBC News Pres: Apr 2023 - Present (News Channel/BBC One)

European viewers are much more interested in news from the UK, than let's say specialty programs like Focus on Africa.

That’s a very good point. The Europe feed should be different from the rest of the world, maybe even to the point of being the same as the UK feed.

EDIT: Forgot about the ads ;-) So it obviously can’t be the same, but you get the idea.

Nice to see Tanya Beckett on BBC News… has she been a regular on BBC News of late, or is this a rare occasion?

I don’t understand why this news bulletin, coming from Studio C, is using the old titles with the red box. Surely using an automated system to cue titles and packages should mean this level of inconsistency isn’t possible, as surely someone has gone through and replaced each instance in the templates for running orders? And without meaning to call anyone in particular out, it’s surely the role of the creative director and senior directors/editors to ensure consistency in how this is done?

The ABC has endured decades of this culture war stuff with regular funding freezes and cuts from conservative governments, but they continue to run a domestic news channel on what would be a fraction of the cost for a much smaller audience!
In addition to that, ABC is also operating the ABC Australia channel, which they consider as their "international channel", although it is broadcasting only in the Southeast Asian region. The channel mostly simulcast ABC News channel, but also airs Pre-school, Aussie football and Drama (including 7's Home and Away).

The channel's previous incarnations, ABC Asia-Pacific and Australia Network, was funded by the Foreign Affairs department and commercial advertisements, but the Abbott government cuts its funding and forced to close the channel. I believe the current channel is funded directly under ABC, considering that it has zero adverts now.

AET typically refers to the time in New South Wales, I think. Aussie timezone is a bit confusing sometimes, since QLD is AEST all year-round but NSW, VIC and TAS observes AEDT.

Apologies if it had already been posted here, but Clean Feed did a recap of what we saw this week:
cleanfeed.thetvroom.com

In particular, they say that apart from possible big redesign, we also have not seen the recreated Lambie-Narn graphics, and what we saw was more of an ad-hoc fix.

Quote:However, Clean Feed understands that a recreation of the Lambie-Nairn graphics is coming soon. So expect the title sequences to better accommodate the Chameleon branding.

Tanya has been back doing semi occasional shifts on the News Channel/World at weekends since about late last year.

What’s the reasoning for them using freelance presenters over all the core BBC staff that we haven’t seen this week?

There doesn't seem to be much reasoning at all where anything is concerned on this merged channel based on the evidence of the last 6 days.

On-air staff who were working flat out for a month to present on the channel during the pilots month deserve some time off, and it's Easter weekend? Just a thought.  Rolleyes

The project management of this has a lot to be desired!

Who knows, we might then have 3 sets of titles doing the rounds all at the same time!

Working 4 weeks without a break isn’t exactly hard going. And it’s such a poor business decision to give holiday (if that is the case) to a large portion of your team, then paying extra for cover. Especially when cost is a major factor at the moment.
