Sounds like they've reused one of the beds from The Catch Up to go with the animation.

It's certainly nicer and makes it feel more like a feature than just a weird interlude, and I think the whole thing works better now they are often having a UK in Brief segment during the 1' first-half break and largely only using the Across the UK bits for the longer second-half break. But I still don't really understand why they are wasting their ability to fit in extra UK news on 'and finally' stories - even if recycling reports from regional bulletins, surely better to focus on some more newsy stories.
It'd be unlikely to happen for various reasons, but I did think the other day that an even better way of doing it would be to have each of the regions do a short summary of the news in their region and cycle through them throughout the day.

Wasn't that kind of what Afternoon Live with Simon McCoy did (except the regional segments were... well, live)?

With that last wipe featuring St. Paul's Cathedral. Anyone get big, big, big BBC London vibes from around 2008-2019? Just me then.

Not really, I'd say the News Nationwide segments were more a precursor to the Across the UK bits than a regional news summary. As I recall, they generally had two local presenters introduce, usually, a light-hearted or human interest story, rather than reporting on the main regional stories.

And now, under the new 'design language' (if you can call it one), we suddenly have:
[*]Cornered graphics and left-aligned text: The Context, BBC News Now
[*](Sort of) centred graphics and left-aligned text: Verified Live, The Daily Global
[*]Centred graphics and text: Focus on Africa (whose abstract representation of the continent is novel but undercooked IMO)
Just make up your mind, Beeb!

Another clip just been shown from the Verify 3 monitors setup on the news channel. Looks like it's still suffering from the same stuttering picture quality problem, as if it's been badly compressed. Got a feeling we may be treated to it again shortly on the 6.

Not just you. The first thought I had when I saw it was the 2008 BBC regional titles
