BBC News Pres: Apr 2023 - Present (News Channel/BBC One)

Quite the day for Katya Adler to present the News at One for what I presume is the first time.

If you rewind to 14:34, you can see a live interview, only you can also see another  contributor at the top of the screen. Not sure if she is someone waiting to be interviewed or if she is BBC staff and it was her who set up the meeting. She seems to be in a living room, first she is wearing a jumper with stars on it, then she takes her jumper off!

Well worth engaging live rewind for.

Interesting to see that the News Channel opt-out for the Sir Bobby Charlton funeral procession coverage appeared to be a Salford/sport production, hosted by Olly Foster onsite, then Jane Dougall at MediaCity. There was even name captions in the sport news graphics for a few interviews before the procession began.

And, although not always the case, there was clean and smooth opt out of the News at One at 13:17 (the globe sting faded in at the end of Tom Bateman's report from Israel) and at the end (Jane handing over to Rajini Vaidyanathan in Downing Street at 14:05). The BSL interpeter stayed on screen until 13:30-ish as would be normal, and didn't either stay to the end of the broadcast or leave at its beginning.

I actually did just that Big Grin and hey presto - she turns up 15 minutes later!

We were talking about website livestreams the other day - well at the moment the live page on the cabinet reshuffle, they're showing a televised version of PM.

Is the U.K. opt out not able to run past 5:30pm? I noticed just now they cut an interview with a commentator short quite abruptly for no obvious reason other than just so they could rejoin the global feed for the 17:30 GMT news summary. Honestly it looked pretty poor and made no sense.

1730-1800 is effectively a "UK opt-out" under normal circumstances - the world feed is taking Focus on Africa at that time frame and that time slot of Verified Live is UK only.

Do all of World take on focus on Africa or just some regions ?

Unless there’s significant news the NA feed takes it. The show is rebroadcast on The African Channel in the US but there’s probably other means of receiving the show just like WETA.

What was on screen during a story playout? Just old mate standing around having a glass of water?

Have to say the live coverage of the reshuffle was not great. An interminable OB from outside number 10 hosted by someone without the tone or gravitas for the moment. No one at a desk to tie things all together.
