Well that was rather foolish of Maryam.

Oh dear, that was rather unfortunate. Maybe she had just been getting something stuck from between her teeth like Tomasz Schafernaker, but it didn't look like it.

alternatively, the instant switch into "serious mode" makes her the *perfect* replacement!

Don’t the presenters hear the countdown and also some kind of director’s count to live?

I’m at a bit of a loss for words, I can’t imagine how this could end up happening. Even Tomasz’ incident was not as bad.

I mean, at the TOTH, come on.

Assume all mics are on surely extends to assuming all cameras are broadcasting what they see! Easy to get caught out, but that is TV 101 I’d have thought.

One thing that strikes me about the new channel is a lack of ‘warmth’ in it - maybe that’s not fair because I’m comparing to when I watched the old channel much more many years ago, but the likes of Simon McCoy, Mathew Amroliwala and Jane Hill, the network presenters on the 5pm hour - there was something inviting about them, it didn’t just feel like news but like news brought with a little warmth, sometimes humour, some insight.

When I’ve tuned in recently, I just don’t get that at all. Is it lack of familiarity? Something about preferences of world audiences? Lack of double-headed presentation? I don’t know, but it’s a factor in why I rarely watch and prefer the 1/6/10 or other channels.

She should get a suspension for a period, unprofessional and unwise. Clearly she is not a serious broadcaster. What was going on in the gallery to prompt this reaction?

When you watch the full video it’s even more unbelievable. Personally I don’t think she should return to the main channel. In some ways a weather presenter can get away with it, but it’s not so easy when it’s the news broadcast. Sorry she has to go, not totally, but how can she present serious news after this incident. Maybe if she issued an on screen apology?

I mean there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that she is a serious broadcaster...

I presume you’ve never messed up. What an absurd overreaction.

Well it depends on your sense of professionalism. I know that if I walked into studio C, went up to a camera and stuck my middle finger up seconds before air, I’d expect the bricks to come down on me. The BBC either wants to run a serious news channel, or it doesn’t. It looks as if the gallery was run from a bar based on this incident. I don’t want to argue about it, people have different standards of want they expect, I personally think someone in that position, it’s unacceptable and that’s all I have to say on the matter.

Forgive me for being dramatic - but protesting for a news broadcaster to go over one unfortunately timed blooper is insanity at its finest.
