News Coverage of Unfolding Events in Russia
#41

Just wanted to say that Matthew Amroliwala on BBC News has been outstanding this evening. An absolute masterclass in handing breaking news to any aspiring television or radio journalist.

He's just conducted a long form interview with Ukraine's former Prime Minister. On top of his brief, good questions gleaming really interesting information from his guests and moving between guests seemlessly.

The pace of the channel seems much better today, probably because of how the story has developed.

Nice to see BBC bringing Yalda on air as well.

Back to the old days of CNNi and Domestic anchors jointly co-anchoring during a simulcasted major international event.

Slightly extended bulliten (20 minutes long instead of 15), and it's indeed 10 branded from Studio B.

I'm presuming they're only in B today because of the major news and they're still going to be coming from E on Saturday's for the foreseeable (as the lunchtime bully came from E).

Simulcast on the UK feed of the news channel as well. Rich Preston is anchoring this hour on the World feed having been doing the touch screen earlier.

I guess he was scheduled to anchor this evening before Matthew got the call.

Did not have The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer on a Saturday in London on my 2023 cards.

They do it when there is a really big story unfolding, actually they had Saturday edition of the Situation Room for several weeks in the opening phase of the invasion of Ukraine. However, Wolf really did the heavy lifting today, with almost six hours of anchoring.

More interestingly, Wolf announced that tomorrow there will be a Situation Room edition as well.

The Situation Room aired 7 days a week for several weeks at the beginning of the Covid pandemic as well.

Wolf actually hosted The Situation Room 7-days-a-week (excluding Christmas/New Year) for 10 months from March 2020 until January 2021. It was kinda crazy!
