In fact 2021 ended up being a two contestant final after AJ Odudu injured her foot the day before the final, on top of another withdrawal earlier in the series

Might make scheduling a bit easier in the weeks ahead with Doctor Who expected to be squeezed in if they can knock 5-10 minutes off an episode.

We will certainly see a change in their schedule running time for the next week or so - last week the show was delayed by 5 minutes to shorten it - but the effect of her leaving will only be around 5 to 10 minutes.

Double that now. Will the rest of the schedule end up running earlier than advertised tonight and next Saturday?

Bit of a logistical nightmare, eliminations this week and next week would mean only 2 in the final?

Given how last minute this is, and as the producers have already used up their safety net after Amanda's withdrawal, it can be inferred from the BBC News article that they are at least looking at possibly skipping this week's elimination

A spokesperson said: "Unfortunately Nigel has sustained an injury which means he is unable to perform and has had to withdraw from Strictly".
It is not clear whether an elimination will still go ahead this week.
The remaining celebrities are actress Ellie Leach, tennis star Annabel Croft, theatre and TV star Layton Williams and EastEnders actor Bobby Brazier.
Asked what would happen this week, a BBC spokesperson said: "It's a live situation and the logistical details will be revealed on the show this evening."
Initial reports suggested Harman had suffered a leg injury, but it was later clarified by the BBC that it was a rib injury.

So the second time in three years they've had to go from a planned four to just two in the final - though of course the worry now is another person pulls out and you end up with a one person final. I'd still probably back the wrong horse though!

It's a shame really that the one time a UK reality show tried to bring someone back it wasn't looked upon favourably because an ideal workaround in this situation would be to have an ex-contestant voted back in, especially as technically the viewers haven't voted anyone out at any point.

Should at least mean a some nice long airings for the Christmas idents tonight though.

That would mean tomorrow's results show being cancelled, right?

I feel the BBC will cancel tomorrow night's not live results show, and instead do what they do at week one, have couples dance, get scored by the judges and then wait for a week. BBC One can easily fill the 40 minute slot on Sunday with a cheap repeat, it will not be too hard.

Tonight's show will probably lose 5 to 10 minutes, as they will have to pad it out a lot.

One of the advantages of not airing a live results show, means the studio audience will not be let down.
