Studio A at Southampton is probably big enough that the new set could be built opposite the old one, although I guess working around transmissions would be awkward.

South not scheduled to decamp again for a fair while yet so don't expect anything soon.

Totally understand if you're not able to answer this, but can you offer a vague hint as to when Southampton's build is due to start? eg, are we talking weeks, or still several months?

No. Their current set is pretty much in the middle of the studio. There wouldn’t be space to build the new one alongside

All of these set installs also involve massive electrical upgrades and installs - something that you can't do with the studio in use. The LED walls require a lot of power which local studios simply can't cope with without a lot of new infrastructure rigged in to power it all.

Good to see former BBC South weather presenter Georgie Palmer making a return on the local bulletins on Breakfast this morning.

It's quite a niche thing to point out, but the graphics/straps from Tunbridge Wells seem so retro compared to Southampton's. There's no animation whatsoever, they just snap on and off.

Southampton have the new HD gallery and are able to animate ‘Astons’ using Xpression. Tunbridge Wells are still using an Aston and BigTed. I believe there is a project for all regions to get this new HD gallery soon

Yes - Southampton were the guinea pigs and were selected to trial it first so they could iron out any potential bugs and sticking points when installed. It's now slowly being rolled out across the regions. I think Newcastle has now been finished but not sure who is next on the list.
