Only concern, and it applies to The UK Tonight and Politics Hub too, is they’re a bit too narrow in focus. I don’t think the news fits into neat little hour-long boxes depending on what the story is. They were lucky tonight in big international news breaking during Yalda’s show, but would they have run with a domestic breaking story in the same way? I’m confident they’re prepared for this, but I find it quite jarring how the whole agenda changes each hour.
It’s not quite to the level of the terrible James Rubin show in this way but I’m interested to see how the three main evening strands develop over time. I could see The World moving later and Politics Hub / UK Tonight merging together.
Whilst I do quite like the evening schedule with Sophy, SJ and Yalda bring quite unique styles, I’m left wondering if Dermot’s programme did all three strands pretty well, politically focused at times from Westminster but also delving deeper into the bigger stories of the day, wether international or UK based.
I imagine these three shows have a lot more resources than Sky News Tonight did, but is the end product worth it?
