The Weather Channel has launched an hour at 4am ET of retro Local on the 8's , where they air local forecasts (current ones) but with the retro local on the 8's graphics.
Here's today's hour www.youtube.com

They've also made 5am an hour with a map forecast like what they air on On The Weather Channel En español.

There are some issues with BBC Weather's data supplier meaning there are some abnormally low temperatures appearing on forecasts and on the app.

The app forecasts will be computer generated with no human input

But you would have thought the TV forecast could have been overridden and amended

Of course the Met Office app is working correctly….

The summary temperatures are apparently updated automatically, and there wasn't time to correct them manually.

In that circumstance, wouldn't it have been preferable to remove that specific sequence? Cut back to the opening graphic to talk over?

Storm in a teacup, of course.

Love this clip of a weather presenter accidentally finding out his weather screen is a touchscreen.

WGN Chicago is updating their weather graphics:

A solid improvement, though the examples aren't the graphics that most desperately need a rethink IMO - forecasts are certainly worse contenders:

The problem is that Tom Skilling used to create it own slides. And they were always a mess becuse they standard graphics package doesnt allow him to pack all the data he likes to use.. The other WGN meteorologists stick with the graphics package. And they look nothing like that. Tom is the highest paid local meteorologist in the US and he is given a lot of leeway to do what he want. The sad part is its clear he isnt a graphic artist, so his "slides" were always a mess. Really bad powerpoint presentations almost. These bad examples are unique to Tom Skilling only and cant be blamed on anyone else.

Though WGN needs a new creative direction, its really old. Everything needs a re-fresh desperately. But they are in a "it aint broke dont fix it mode" so they probably wont be changing much anytime soon. Thought they need a creative kick up the jacksie.
