I know they cut it out of most of the jingles a few years back in favour of pushing BBC Sounds, but it must be the first time in a very long time that no reference is made to it at all.
The new package is pretty weak IMO - the main logo just doesn’t have the same power behind it as the old one did. It used to always irritate me when presenters would crash the jingle before the news and now it’s baked in to the pre-recorded sequence! No logo at the start of the travel bed either, it just begins without fanfare and sounds very generic, and as posted above it’s a huge shame to lose that fantastic Jeremy Vine package.
Yes, surprising to have no reference to FM or DAB, just smart speaker and BBC Sounds. The smart speaker bit in particular sounds quite ‘forced’.
The frequency had already gone from almost everywhere - the love song jingle was the only one I think that kept it, but obviously it was still heard the TOTH. Now I guess it just survives on the text number (88291) and phone number (0800 288 291).
Overall, it’s a negative from me too, though only a mild one. Just not as distinctive as what came before.

It needn’t be anything too dominant. Radio Leeds’ 2004 IQ Beats package (also used by Kent and Stoke) incorporated the thunderclaps in their TOTH jingle which worked really well IMO.
Of course David Lowe's news theme was chosen to incorporate elements of radio news with the pips, so arguably they already do, that said Radio 2 only use them 3 times a day, so I don't disagree.

Sounds like it could be a Wisebuddah creation - Jem Godfrey of Wisebuddah was speaking with Scott Mills this afternoon and it was mentioned.

I actually think I prefer the new pre-recorded TOTH news intros - as a new to 2 listener it annoyed me when DJ’s didn’t do the intros properly (Zoe Ball sometimes seemed to forget she had to do it or just did one/two lines presumably because she thought she’d run out of time!). That being said I really am not a fan of the new travel bed - just soulless. At least keep the familiar R2 sonic branding at the beginning!

Warmed a little bit to the new TOTH jingle now but I miss the little presenter sign offs into the jingle when finishing their shows. Also feels a bit weird hearing a random mix of voices... Need a clean version to talk over.
I agree on the travel bed too, feels very generic, the previous one was distinctive enough that you knew it was the travel immediately (maybe the inclusion of the sonic branding would help?)

Haha, OK I hadn't heard any of those and I do love that too... I rescind my previous comment!

Absolute national treasure. Wish they had Tarbuck on more.

I wonder how much leeway presenters had to play around with the 'up to news' line.
I noticed some presenters seemed to deliver it absolutely word-for-word every time, while others seemed to go off-piste regularly. Jeremy Vine often used to shorten it to something akin to "smart speaker, Sounds app, and 88 to 91 FM".
(Tarbuck in a league of her own in that regard though. An absolute gem.)

Job done as far as Scott Mills is concerned - growing his own audience and matching the audience of Steve Wright, but with the desired younger demos.
It is a much better show now than when it started but still needs stronger format points IMO - something he had no trouble with on Radio 1.
