The Sport Thread - For stuff not worthy of a thread of its own

I’ve noticed in the last couple of days, Sky Sports News has decamped to a different studio, notably one that had a red top desk, I don’t think it’s the Soccer Saturday studio, but it’s definitely not the normal studio. I believe it was mentioned previously the main studio was being revamped at some point this year.

Despite DAZN getting a lot of publicity for bidding to end the 3PM blackout last week, the EFL have entered exclusive negotiations with current partner Sky Sports for the next rights period through to 2027. Other broadcasters could enter negotiations if no deal is reached by early May.

To be honest, hearing some reports about DAZN's offering and finances across various territories (including the price in the UK rising from £1.99 to £19.99 a month in two years) I don't blame the EFL being hesitant to take up their offer, especially considering how they were burnt by the ITV Sports Channel 20ish years ago.

Pity. For a moment I thought the blackout would be rightfully consigned to history but money talks.

I’ve seen reports that say for some PL matches not broadcast in the UK it’s been estimated half a million people or more watched illegal streams.

It does seem perverse that games can be rearranged for the benefit of overseas TV, often to times which are impractical for away fans to attend, often leaving them out of pocket because they have booked trains etc early, and they don't even have the consolation of being able to watch on TV/in the pub.

It is perverse. You'd think the EFL would wise up in this day and age. Okay, they say the clubs will lose money if people don't physically attend the games, but then what about the money they could make by televising them?

Is there any reason why Sky Sports Golf coverage of The Masters is being broadcast without a Sky Sports Golf DOG ?

This happens from time to time across the Sky Sports channels. I've always presumed it's because some code/signal/pulse/whatever behind the scenes doesn't get sent to trigger it. Suspect Sports don't add it at source and its added at playout instead.

Doesn’t The Masters always go out DOG—less on Sky? Part of the broadcasting oddities of the tournament, like the much shorter than normal commercial breaks?
