The Sport Thread - For stuff not worthy of a thread of its own

Update II: Perry v. Milkins will no longer take place tonight, with a bonus session occuring on Thursday morning at 09:30 to conclude the match. Presumably this means the BBC will have an 83rd programme from the Crucible in place of Nicky Campbell.

Agree, it's not exactly rocket science to work out the afternoon session is the highest profile session of any day (BBC Two, Winter Gardens studio etc.). Plus, an afternoon session being saboutaged would have caused greater disruption with a table out of action for two matches rather than just one tonight.

To clarify, the paint incident was on the table that was on the Red Button, with the other protester was shown live on BBC Four. Kudos to the referee below for apprehending the protester (a radiographer by profession who returned to frontline nursing during the height of the pandemic).

Terrible is one way of putting it. Disgusting is another.  The decision to cut away was right.

Is there a bit of 'f off!' in that clip or are my ears deceiving me?

On the second table (on the wide shot) you'll see the referee struggling to stop the other protestor getting onto the table.

It's gone largely unnoticed but the first person to come and help the referee was the cameraman of all people! You see him hang his headphones up and run over. So while the players did absolutely nothing, huge Kudos to whoever the cameraman was (and the ref)!

'And for those watching in black and white, the powder is orange' - sorry, had to say that!

For goodness sake. Is no event safe from this kind of lunacy these days? These idiots, and others from similar groups, are doing absolutely nothing other than turning people against their cause. Completely moronic.

I was watching live on BBC Four and they were showing Allen v Fan live and seen the ref grab the protester but never noticed the cameraman until you said. Allen said in his interview he was going down on his shot and was probably the last person to realise after the protest and boos started on the other table. An incredible night for the wrong reasons and can't see what this will do to bring people to their cause.

Also have to give kudos to MC Rob Walker who was commentating with John Parrott who got involved with the clean up of table 1.

Having attended a few media events in the past where Rob Walker was in attendance (and having briefly met him) I can tell you hand on heart he is one of the most kind, likeable, knowledgable (and funny) people in sports commentary.

Pretty sure I've heard people mention he'll even stay behind after shifts to help the technical teams pack up kit/pack equipment down.

The above proving my point.

That doesn't surprise me at all - he always comes across really well in anything he does.

more blackout window shenanigans: this Saturday's FA Cup semi-final has a 1645 kick-off, which means that other broadcasters can also transmit matches at the same time - so far it seems only BT are taking advantage, with Lazio v Torino in its entirety; rather than joining it after 15 minutes.

There is talk that Fifa are going to stream the Women’s World Cup for countries without broadcast deals.
