Sports rights are tight not just because of the revenue though, overspill regs make it a big problem if for example UK rights holders are regularly seen to be received overseas.
I reckon at some point in the not to distant future most of the satellite providers will move more to IPTV as a rights measure, as well as cost savings - allegedly James Murdoch wanted to drive it more in connection with Sky Broadband/ The Cloud being prevalent in venues, but there was a reluctance to ditch the dish network at that point. It would certainly make a lot of peoples lives easier in terms of lockout if it was entirely account based.
